From United to SOL: A New Era Begins for Clay County United Teams
To commemorate the Clay County Soccer Club's U19 Girls SOL team winning U.S. Youth National Championship with a thrilling win in a PK shootout against Scorpions SC (MA), the Clay County Soccer Club will rename all our girls Premier and Academy teams to the Clay County SOL.
Since Clay County Soccer Club's inception in 1989, our girls teams have been known as Clay County United. The Clay County United teams have built an impressive legacy that will continue as the Clay County SOL.
The Clay County SOL also will be uniquely connected to the Florida SOL Pro-Am WPSL team that calls the Eagle Harbor Soccer Complex its home.
Executive Director Luis Torres said of the honor: "I think it will help build a stronger bond between the girls at the very youngest ages up to the WPSL Women's team, and also with all of those college and National Team players who have played and trained here at Clay County under the SOL banner. It also is a great tribute to the accomplishments of those SOL players who have just won the National Championship. It had been 17 years since the last Girls National Championship belonged to Florida."
From Chairman, Wayne Wolfenbarger: "Congratulations the U19 Clay County SOL for winning the US Youth Soccer National Championship and for allowing us to honor your accomplishments by naming all our Premier and Academy girls teams Clay County SOL and committing to the high standards of excellence and winning you have set for all future players to follow."
