CLAY COUNTY SOCCER CLUB TO INTRODUCE NATIONALLY
RECOGNIZED COACH AS DIRECTOR OF COACHINGFOR GIRLS PROGRAMS
FLEMING
ISLAND, Florida (May 11, 2010) – The Clay County Soccer Club will introduce Luis Torres as the new
Director of Coaching, Girls Programs. Luis will be responsible for the growth
and development of girls’ soccer for the premier, recreation and academy
programs. Luis Torres comes
to Clay County Soccer with over 23 years of coaching experience. Torres began coaching
while he was still a student at the University of Arizona, where he played
baseball and soccer, graduating with a Bachelors of Fines Arts degree in 1988. Torres
holds various licenses including the USSF C license, the NSCAA advanced National, and the NSCAA National Goalkeeping
license. Torres has spent the last four years at the University of North Florida
as both an assistant coach and now director of soccer operations for the Division I women’s program.
In 2008 Torres was invited to be a staff coach and goalkeeper coach for the Puerto Rican
U-17 Women’s National team at the CONCAF World Cup qualifier in Trinidad
& Tobago. He is also going on 6 years as head coach of one of the most successful
girls teams in Florida History, having been the only team in Jacksonville to ever win a Region III Championship
and represent Florida in the National Championship Game in 2009. Individually
the team holds every North Florida record with the most U.S. National pool/team
players (7), as well as (8) region team players and over (14) State ODP players, (2) Parade All Americans,
and (1) U.S. Player of the Year. Torres is also an accomplished musician and composer and
resides in Fleming Island with his wife and three daughters.
