Academy's
Scope and Focus
What is the The Premier
Academy League? This is a league designed by Clay County, First Coast Soccer, and JYSC to provide an
avenue of player development for u9s and u10s.
Who is eligible? All
players that will be either 8, 9 born between 8/1/1998 and 7/31/1996 are eligible to play in the Premier Academy League.
How
long is the season? The fall season will last 12 weeks.
The spring season will last 10 weeks. The Academy Training will last 10 weeks. An optional
Winter 4v4 League is available..
How the teams will be formed? All players who register
will be permitted to play in the Premier Academy League. All registered Academy League players CANNOT dual
register on a Recreational Team. The Academy Director and his appointed staff will evaluate players. There
will be no teams. Players will be weekly shuffled to play their respective games on the weekends. GAME
DAY MANAGERS will help in the game preparations.
What is the training schedule and training priorities? Players
will be under the direct supervision of the Academy Director and their respective GAME DAY MANAGER. The Academy Director will
develop the training program. The emphasis will be on the technical development of the players. This will be accomplished
by a maximum number of touches on the ball, getting players comfortable with the ball at their feet, the encouragement of
players to be creative and take players on. We want to create a passion for the game through a fun training environment.
All players will train at 2x per week. The training format will be the following: 1.Station training based
upon the curriculum- This will involve either the boys/girls. 2.The second session will involve
the Academy Staff for ½ of the session. The remaining half will involve the GAME DAY MANAGER to help organize
the players for the weekend. This format will last a total of 10 weeks.
What is a
GAME DAY MANAGER? A GAME DAY MANAGER is someone who facilitates the
game for the kids. Responsibilities include the organization of the players on the GAME DAY, and substitutions.
What is the purpose of the Premier Academy League? The program will stress
player development over wins and losses. It is much more important that we develop players within the proper framework at
this age as opposed to demanding that teams must win at all costs. The curriculum will be designed specifically for our youth
players in he Academy Program therefore, your sons and daughters will be assured a proper age specific learning environment.
Our philosophy is to develop skills and techniques to play “The Beautiful Game of Soccer.” Winning is not
a priority, rather the expression of the player and his/her ability is vital. We want to open the door of creativity for every
player with a soccer ball. There will be an educational system in place for the parents as well. We need parents to understand
the process of player development and start to look at the big picture instead of so called instant gratification. If we are
to produce a strong and solid select program then we need to start at the youngest age group and provide them with all the
tools necessary to succeed. This program lays the foundation for the players for years to come – this is a 3-5 year
program.
Coaching Opportunities:
We are looking for a number of GAME DAY MANAGERS who are interested in assisting
in the development and organization of the Premier Academy League Program. This program is not only designed to develop our
players, but our coaches as well.
