This past weekend, the Clay County Soccer Club 99 and 01 boys attended the prestigious Jefferson Cup Showcase. Jefferson Cup takes place in Richmond, Virginia, and it encompasses some of the best competition from U.S. and International Clubs. It is widely considered one of the best showcases in the Country.
Each team had different objectives prior to the event, for the 99 boys it was maintenance with 12 players already committed to playing college soccer. The 2001 boy’s main objective was exposure to collegiate coaches, and they got just that with over 65 colleges watching them play over the course of the weekend.
Head Coach and Executive Director Matt Hollyoak said, “Jefferson Cup was an awesome experience for our Boys. Obviously for our 99 boys, the goal was to stay sharp and get the lastcouple of players that have not signed a good look, and I think we achieved that; I think we willround off the 2018 class in the coming weeks”. When asked about the 01 Boys, Hollyoakstated “They are an incredible group, I think they have the potential of being one of our best recruiting classes in our area’s history”.
