Lia Godfrey Selected to the U17 US World Cup Team!
Clay County's Lia Godfrey has been named to the 2016 U.S. U17 World Cup Team. Godfrey, a freshman at Fleming Island H.S. Is the youngest of the 21 players from all over the U.S. Called to compete for a world title this October in Jordan. The U17 World Cup is the only title that has eluded the U.S. In women's international competition. " It is a great honor to be called in to play for your country at any time, but to be called in to a World Cup squad is incredibly prestigious, and for her to be only 14 years old is even more special." Said Clay County Soccer director Luis Torres who is also Lia's coach and trainer. "She's a great kid with special gifts and a natural propensity for the game, but It's really all of the work she's put in since she was a little girl that has made her one of the top talents in the U.S., we're all extremely proud of her here at Clay County" said Torres.
On behalf of the Clay County Soccer Club and Community we want to say Congratulations and Good Luck Lia! Go USA!
