U12 SOL Black runner-up at Presidents Cup
The CCSC U12 SOL Black girls represented Region B in the 2013 FYSA President’s Cup on April 6-7 in Auburndale, FL. The girls played the Region A (South Florida) winner Boca United in a semi-final match on Saturday morning. Ann Marie Hawley scored the lone goal of the 1st half by stepping up from her left back position and hitting a rocket from 20 yards out. The SOL led 1-0 at halftime. Early in the 2nd half, Hayden Bunn made a great play by stripping a defender in the box and scoring on a 1v1 with the goalkeeper. The SOL defense delivered another shut out and the game ended 2-0 in favor of the SOL and put the team through to the finals.
The SOL were matched up against Cape Coral (Region C champion) in the championship match on Sunday morning. Cape Coral was a 2012 President’s Cup finalist and runner-up as a U11 team a year ago. The match was evenly played for the 1st 20 minutes until Cape Coral broke through with two quick goals. The SOL found themselves down 0-2 at halftime. Despite a valiant effort, the SOL conceded one more goal in the 2nd half and lost the final 0-3 to a very deserving Cape Coral team. That result gave the U12 SOL Black girls a 2nd place finish at President’s Cup and a state runner-up title for U12 girls.
Congratulations to this group of girls on a impressive run to the Region B Championship and state runner-up!
