U13 SOL Black wins Championship at Adidas Columbus Day Classic
The CCSC U13 SOL Black team won the top U13 girls division at the Adidas Columbus Day Classic on Oct. 12-13. The girls defeated Tarpon FC 1-0 in the 1st game on Saturday morning on a lone PK by Maryssa K. after left wing Skyler R. drove deep into the penalty box and was taken down. In their 2nd match, the girls gave up an early goal off a corner kick to the FKK Florida Krush Black team, but then dominated the rest of the way with a superb long range bomb from holding mid Kirstin S. and two goals from speedy right wing Hayden B. The match ended as a 3-1 victory. The girls' final group game came against Florida Rush. Claudia T. slipped in behind the defense on a nice through ball and beat the keeper 1v1 to put the SOL up 1-0. From the left wing, Tamares then notched her second goal of the game which would finish as a 2-1 victory.
The girls faced Tampa Bay United in the championship match on TBU's home field. The game was a hard fought, even match ending in a 0-0 tie and going straight to PK's. GK Alia S. make two huge saves and with four well placed shots the girls came away with the U13 championship trophy.
